Welcome to Been There, Run That! My name is Kristen and I live in Groton, Connecticut with my husband, Dave and our American Eskimo, Stanley.

How we came to Connecticut
I was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware and attended college at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. After graduating in 2007, I moved to Boston to attend law school. Ultimately, going to law school was both the best and worst decision I have ever made – best, because it was there that I met my husband. The worst because I realized while I was there that I had no intentions of ever practicing law. I stuck it out, knowing that having a J.D. in my back pocket would be an asset, and we graduated from Boston College in May 2010.

Since Dave is in the Navy, we moved to Groton (the submarine capital of the world) in June 2010 and have been here ever since. My husband is a JAG and works on base, which is located a few miles from our home. After law school, I worked first as the Vice President and head race director for a large mud run company in Massachusetts and then as the Marketing and Events Director at Fleet Feet in Hartford.
Why this blog was created
I have been an avid runner and athlete since a young child. I participated in various sports throughout elementary school, namely swimming, softball, basketball and a brief stint with cross country in 5th grade. Once I got to high school, I joined the track team and running became my main focus. I continued into college, recreationally, and ran my first marathon, the Steamtown Marathon in Scranton, when I was 19. Since then, I have run 13 marathons, including 3 Boston Marathons and dozens of half marathons, 10Ks, 5 milers and 5Ks. Running has been the one constant in a life that has been characterized by a lot of change and it’s what keeps me grounded and focused. While in law school, I became involved with the Massachusetts chapter of Team in Training and became a marathon and 10K coach. In addition, I have coached high school track and the Fleet Feet marathon training group for the 2012 Hartford Marathon. One of the greatest accomplishments of my life thus far has been instilling the love of running in others.

As an avid reader of several healthy living and running blogs, I had the idea to create my own with the goal to highlight some of the great running and endurance events in the area. In addition, my husband and I will be (hopefully) launching a few of our own events next year under our own race management company, also called Been There, Run That. The greater Hartford/Southeastern CT/Rhode Island running community is robust and growing and it’s my goal to bring awareness to all the exciting races that take place around this area. In addition to race reviews and a look into what it takes to put on a road race, I will be sharing my workouts, reviews on shoes and other running gear, adventures around New England and other experiences. Thank you for stopping by and I hope you check in regularly!
